Kate and Josh's Wedding on Saturday, June 28, 2008

Kate and Josh's wedding brought us back to the The Mill at Fine Creek, a beautiful outdoor venue in Powhatan, Virginia. The ceremony took place outside the ruins of the historic mill. Both Josh and Kate wrote their own vows, making for an emotional ceremony. It was simply beautiful.

An amazing amount of care and craft went into the making of this wedding, I had no idea how talented Kate is nor can I imagine how many hours she spent in preparation. She created luggage tags for each guest. She created a scrapbook for each table based on a destination with meaning in the couple's lives. She made the guest book. She sewed and embroidered the ring bearer's pillow and made the flower girl's basket to match. Beautiful boxes were made for treats guests could pack away and take as favors. All the details were crafted in a mix of muted pastels, made lovingly and with professional precision. Kate's handy work brought an Old World feel to a modern wedding.
Speaking of Old World, I really appreciated the bridesmaid's dresses. Candy pink complete with skirting and beading, fluffy and floofy, these dresses made me think of the embellished gowns my grandmother's bridesmaids made and wore for her wedding. The most common trend these days is to seek the anti-bridesmaid dress, a garment with the potential to be worn again, an item nearly as mythical as the Foutain of Youth or a unicorn. So I have to give props to a group of super cool gals who wholeheartedly embraced the bridesmaid dress for all its girly glory. And as I watched the gals hike up all that fabric to spin across the dance floor, I couldn't help but feeling that the modern bridesmaid is missing out on something kinda fun. And just to be fair, the guys were looking very sharp in pin stripes and contrast wing tips. Check out this style swatch to see the vintage appeal of all the details:
