Baby Camille Turns One!

This was such a bittersweet session for me. Camille is my very first, first year documentary baby. I have been taking pictures of Camille since before she was born and have been photographing her parents even longer than that. Tricia and Patrick used to live up the street from us and I used to tease that we should meet prospective clients at their house instead of ours since there were so many photos Sam and I had taken on their walls! I still refer to their house as "Worthington Gallery".

So this was our last official session of Camille's first year and she is clearly no longer a baby.

Sniffle.

The good news is that I will continue to photograph her once a year so we're not saying good-bye. And besides, Tricia and I get to work on developing an album around all the sessions of Camille's first year and that should be fun too.

At the ripe old age of one, Camille became.... a homeowner. I think we might have skipped a few steps in there (braces? drivers ed? prom? college?) but she was delighted to show me her new play house anyway. As you can see, it comes with everything and the kitchen sink. I love how you can see all the suburban homes through the windows of her play house. I think Patrick is just happy that she's finally old enough to mow the lawn.

I just can't get over what a big girl she has become, just look at those feet! She loves her books, Max Minnow is her favorite. I'm not so sure about the story line but the googley eyes are definitely a pleaser.

While hanging out in the nursery, Tricia was leaning against the crib and Patrick reminded me of a maternity photo I took of Tricia in practically the same pose. How cool is it that we could begin and end this project with a similar shot, completely unintentionally? While its compositionally distracting, I do like that Nayla's head is in the most recent version (look to the left). No worries dog lovers, Nayla wasn't displaced by Camille's arrival as you can see.

We had to celebrate a great first year of photos and decided that cupcakes were in order. No better way to pull that last bit of baby out of Camille than allowing her to make a mess of herself for the camera!

I learned something important: if you drink chocolate milk you can have a chocolate moustache but if you eat a chocolate cupcake you can have a chocolate moustache and a chocolate soul patch. Sweet.

Upon Tricia's request, I handed the camera over to Patrick so he could snap this shot of Camille and I. I love it, this is going in my office:

Here's a slideshow with my favs from the day and click here if you would like to view the entire session. I know the years are going to fly by from here, making me truly happy that we did this project.
