Ashley and Derek's Wedding on Saturday, October 6, 2007

Ashley and Derek's wedding brought us to Celebrations on the Reservoir in unseasonably warm but perfectly sunny weather. The clouds reflecting in the water created a surreal backdrop for the ceremony, a Rene Magritte painting kind of sky.

Ashley asked her grandmother to make capias for all the guests, a Puerto Rican custom. Ordinarily the capias would hang from the bride's bouquet and would be cut and pinned to each guest as the couple made their way through the reception. I happened to be looking through old family wedding photos over the weekend and noticed a wave of lace pieces attached by ribbons cascading from my great grandmother's bouqet. I wonder if there is or was a similar Polish Catholic tradition back then...

Ashley and Derek entered their reception to the Philadelphia Eagle's fight song. Ordinarily I would call this a groom's cake but Ashley is such a big fan herself that I'm not sure I can give the whole thing to Derek...

Guests danced precariously close to the pool to both Latin and American music, a refreshing change from the usual repetoire of "Love Shack" and "Brick House". We were surprised that no one, including the two of us, took an unexpected late night, formal wear swim. Phew...
Here's a slideshow with some of our favorites from the day and we look forward to sharing the play by play party shots soon. If you were a guest and would like to be notified when all the blackmail - I mean photos - are ready for viewing, click here. Congrats Ashley and Derek and, of course,
GO Eagles!
