Nina and Niem's Wedding on Sunday, Sept 2, 2007

Nina and Niem have been making us smile for over a year now so we've been looking forward to their wedding. The ceremony took place at the beautiful Greek Orthodox Cathedral here in Richmond along with a reception at the historic Jefferson Hotel. We had some time between the ceremony and reception so we rode about town and took some photos on Monument Ave and by Belle Isle.

Nina had a great idea for the flowers: each bridesmaid had a different bouquet of variety and color. The bouquets were used as table displays at the reception along with towering assortments that combined all the bouquet flowers, it was clever and cheerful.

You guys know I am a photojournalist first and foremost but I have to admit that I have been enjoying posed portraits a little more lately, ever since videographer Bill Gaff convinced me that portraits are as much a part of the event as the cake cutting or the first dance. I know, I know, 1000 lashes with a wet noodle for this confession but our clients always surprise us with what they do during portrait sessions, its pretty entertaining.

Ahh sisters... Nina and Cristina remind me of me and my sis... close enough in age to have squabbled all the way through childhood only to become close pals as adults:

One of the groomsmen, Sam, was unable to be part of the celebration due to his tour in Iraq. My best friend is in Iraq too right now so I thought it was great that they had a cardboard cut out made so that he could still be in attendance. Sam had a great time at the reception, you'll see a little of that in the slideshow but just wait for the full release - wow.

I'm not really sure what is meant by "awkward turtle" but I am not entirely sure I could blog about it if I did:

N&N, we had such a good time photographing the day and can't wait to share more party shots soon (they are hilarious, one might even say awkwardly hilarious). We're especially greatful to the Aquilina family for their hospitality, thanks again for everything. Here's a slideshow with some of our favorites from the day and if you are a guest and would like to be notified by email when all the photos are available for viewing, click here.
