Baby Judson at 2 weeks

Judson was born on August 9th and weighed in at 7.5 pounds. I took these photos of him when he was just over two weeks old. I have no idea what it is to jump into the role of newly-parenthood but I love what it looks like in photographs (i.e., without the the sleepless nights). It transforms a home too: I noticed the book "What to Expect the First Year", a followup to "What to Expect When You're Expecting", sitting on the coffee table while the family was playing and am glad I was able to incorporate it into the shot in the lower right hand corner:

Already, Emy and Sean are tender parents:

Judson's nursery is beautifully adorned with relics from their own childhood. I imagine that its comforting to look around and feel a new bond with your own parents, whether its realizing for the first time all they did for you at your most fragile age or finding comfort in knowing that you are a link in a chain of many parents who have endured 3am feedings and survived. In addition to the many antiques, there's an abundance of rabbits (having just finished reading Watership Down, I feel a particular fondness for the critters). The famous quote from the Velveteen Rabbit is stenciled above the crib.

Sean plays guitar so Emy thought it might be nice to take a picture of Judson in Sean's guitar case. Once we put him in there, he was all about making music:

Speaking of posing, its pretty cliche but I love putting newborns on large pieces of furniture so you get a sense of just how tiny they are. This was a favorite of mine from the day:

It was great to meet Judson and the Trende family and I look forward to our next shoot in a few months. Here's a slideshow with some favorites from the day and if you would like to see all the photos, click here.
