Amy and Mike's Wedding on Saturday, September 15, 2007

Amy and Mike's wedding brought us back to the beautiful Greek Orthodox Cathedral with a reception to follow at Virginia Crossings Resort.

Amy reminded me a lot of me on our wedding date, I was so ready to be married to Sam but nervous to walk down the aisle... it all felt so... public. Amy handled it much better than I did, she didn't stick her tongue out or anything (it has been said that I did this a couple times on my way down but there is no photographic proof). While these photos taken just before the ceremony don't describe the idyllic getting ready moments, I love them for their honesty: Mike was cool as a cucumber while the ladies, confined to a small coat room, were anxious to get the show on the road. Amy's father stood like a sentry in front of the door to the coat room.

I really enjoy Orthodox ceremonies for their visual and auditory beauty, you are transported into another realm. Being restricted to the balcony forces a little more creativity in picture taking, Sam slowed the shutter for this shot where Amy and Mike circumambulate the alter. No worries, there are focused/frozen photos too, but I love how this shot is about the act itself with the cross anchoring everyone together.

Guests enjoyed both American and Greek dancing at the reception. We were especially impressed by Mike's groom's cake made of Krispy Creme doughnuts... a high-class meal fit for a chef (hence, "Kiss the Cook"). After the cake cutting, tables were brought out with platters of doughnuts and various Greek pastries to fuel everyone up for more dancing.

It was great to see some familiar faces (Erin, Marcie!), we had a lot of fun photographing the celebration... And helping other folks to photograph it too, of course (this is Mike's grandmother):

Sam & Mel,

This is a little late but no less sincere, these photos are amazing (it doesn't hurt that Amy & Mike could be models)! You guys are incredibly talented. Your pictures transcend still photography - they perfectly capture all the traditions, emotions and little details that make up a wedding.

See you at the next wedding!

Erin
